The Need

Underwater short-range communication designed for seabed, with high data rate (around 100 Mbps) and energy autonomy of several months, would enable a wide range of applications to digitalize and improve operations in subsea exploitation.

The fact that high data rate influences power consumption through transmission time means that no off-the-shelf product is able to meet all the requirements, while offering at the same time the desired energy autonomy.

The Project

BlueThink designed, prototyped and tested a communication module to be integrated to subsea system, monitor them and transmit data to a remote receiver, yet not increasing the assembly time or requiring additional connecting components.

The system also went through subsea laboratory testing, to verify its robustness in realistic conditions.

The Benefit

An optical communication network, associated with high energy autonomy, can enable subsea communications while either reducing, or eliminating, the need for telecommunication joints.
This implies saving a huge amount of men-hour work, considerably speeding up the submarine factory operations and enabling high speed data communication with the surface.
